A Story About…Perception

How do you prevent other people’s perceptions stop you from doing what you’d like and enjoy doing?
This is a subject that I hear and see all the time – our perception of ourselves and the perception of what others think about us.
I’m too old/young/broken/weak/thin/fat/tired/depressed/busy
I don’t know how
I’ll look like an idiot
I shouldn’t say/wear/do that
They will judge/laugh/ at me. Tell me I shouldn’t/should do XYZ
I’ll be last/have to stop
Everyone is better than me
I’m not good enough
So I won’t! And I don’t!
So here’s the thing.
⭐️What others think is of no concern of ours. Nor do we actually know what is going on in their heads. (Mostly they’re not even thinking about us..or how we think they are!)
Their opinion, is just that. An opinion.
We can choose to accept or ignore it.
We have those same voices in our heads. A product of internal and external influences over time that, if left unchecked, cause us to live in a way that maybe not what we want, deep in our core selves.
Our internal voice is just an opinion, like those external influences. Our perception of self is a product of those influences.
We get to choose whether we action what those voices say.
We have one life
It is our choice what we do with it.
It is our choice what actions we take
It is our responsibility to choose what makes us happy
No shoulds, coulds or would haves have the power to alter this fact unless we let them.
Our life is a product of those decisions.
How different would it look if we listened to those opinions and then made a conscious choice to action only those that helped us thrive?
One positive choice, no matter how small, can change your perception, the action you take, and your level of happiness.
I am.
I can.
And,
I will!
